Pistachio recalls widen

Seven more companies Monday morning announced recalls of products they had sold that contained pistachios from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., the Central Valley pistachio packer hit with salmonella in some nuts.

Here are the Monday recalls, as announced by the Food and Drug Administration:

• Virginia Diner Inc. of Wakesfield, Va., is voluntarily recalling Gourmet Deluxe Mixed Nuts that contain Pistachios. They were marketed under the Virginia Diner, Galloway’s Original, Joe's Market, Lund's & Byerly's, Publix Supermarket, and Sam's Wine & Spirit labels.

• Jeppi Nut and Candy Company of Timonium, Md., is voluntarily recalling Setton Farm’s Natural Pistachios due to potential contamination with the Salmonella organism.

The product was distributed in Maryland in Jeppi’s retail store and through mail orders in one pound brown bags labeled Jeppi’s Natural Pistachios. It was also sold by the bulk case, in cardboard boxes marked Setton Farms Naturally Opened California Pistachios Roasted And Salted with lot numbers: 3578B13XLA-3, 0548D05XLA-3, 0548D05XLA-3. Bulk product was also repacked and sold in 8 oz cello bags with the lot number: R03030901 with an expiration date of 11-16-09 and 2.5 oz cello and black bags with the lot number: R03030901 with an expiration date of 11-04-09.

• Nature’s World LLC of Sumner, Wash., recalling 88 – (25 lb.) cases of NW Delights Deluxe Mixed Nuts distributed to retail stores and sold in retail store bulk bins, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Product was distributed to Safeway, Rosuaers, and Thriftway retail stores located in Washington, Oregon, Montana and Alaska and sold in the bulk bin section of the store. The label on the bulk bins includes “NW Delights DELUXE MIXED NUTS”. No other codes including UPC or expiration dates are found. The cases were sold in the bulk bins by the retail stores between 1/21/2009 and 4/17/2009.

• The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg is voluntarily recalling certain pistachio products because they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg says it has initiated this voluntary recall as part of the expanded Setton International Foods, Inc.

All are labeled either Peanut Shop of Williamsburg or Peanut Shop.

• Nuts on Clark of Chicago, Ill., says that it has voluntarily recalled and discontinued selling since April 6 all batches of California Pistachios as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected product is in 1/3 lb. clear plastic bags of California Pistachios Salted, in shell or 3/4 lb. clear plastic tubs.

• Raja Foods LLC has announced a voluntary recall today of several pack sizes of in shell roasted and salted pistachios and raw pistachio kernels. All were packed under the “SWAD” brand.

• Kamdar Plaza Inc., which received shipments of raw pistachio kernels and roasted and salted pistachios from Setton, has decided to voluntarily recall them. They were sold in Chicago at Kamdar Plaza from September 2008 through March 31, 2009.
