Central Valley gets $2M planning grant

Government planning groups in the Central Valley will share in $2 million from the state to help pay for planning for future demands on government services.
The groups sharing the grant are:
• Merced County Association of Governments
• Council of Fresno County Governments
• Kern Council of Governments
• Kings County Association of Governments
• Madera County Transportation Commission
• San Joaquin Council of Governments
• Stanislaus Council of Governments
• Tulare County Association of Governments
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments was awarded $420,000 to be split among Sacramento County, Yolo County Transportation District, Sutter County, Yuba County, the El Dorado County Transportation Commission, and the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency.
Further north, the Butte County Association of Governments has been award a $185,500 grant.
The grants will assist in developing long term "blueprint" plans to accommodate for regional changes in California's urban areas, including population growth, changing demographics, economic variations and environmental concerns.
"Demands upon existing infrastructure will be overwhelming in the coming years if we do not properly prepare and move forward with an organized approach," says Sunne Wright McPeak, head of the Business, Transportation & Housing Agency, who announced the grants Thursday.
