• Will build hundreds of housing units
• The program has rejuvenated many stalled projects
More than a quarter of the final distribution of federal stimulus money to build affordable housing projects for low-income families in the state is going to projects in the Central Valley.
The allocations of the total of more than $800 million statewide were announced by California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer. The Central Valley projects add up to over $241 million.
These funds have played a vital part in helping to revitalize Californias economy, says Mr. Lockyer. The program has rejuvenated many stalled projects and helped others get off the ground. In doing so, weve created needed affordable housing for working Californians and their families, and helped to put people back to work.
The stimulus funds will help build more than 9,600 housing units and create more than 24,000 jobs in 34 counties across the state, Mr. Lockyer says.
