Joseph Torrez, 40, of Sacramento, has been sentenced to jail and ordered to pay $26,365 in restitution to State Farm Insurance Company after being convicted of insurance fraud, says state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.
Mr. Torrez, then a sergeant for the California Department of Corrections, was arrested at Folsom State Prison nearly a year ago charges involving the faked theft of a motorcycle.
He had claimed his 2005 custom motorcycle had been stolen from the garage at his mother’s home, says Mr. Poizner, but an anonymous informant led investigators to find the motorcycle at a home in Galt.
Mr. Torrez is to serve his time in the Sacramento County jail.
