Winegrape growers want Congress to OK U.S.-Korea free trade agreement

• Claim it will open a new market for state’s wine
• ‘Would provide a much needed boost for the California wine industry’
Congress should not dither and quickly approve a pending free trade agreement with Korea, the California Association of Winegrape Growers says.
“At this point in the economic recovery, a free trade agreement with Korea would provide a much needed boost for the California wine industry,” says Heidi Sched, vice chairman of the growers group.
Economists concluded in a 2009 study by University of California, Davis, Agricultural Issues Center, that implementation of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement could more than double California’s current exports of agricultural products to that country, valued at $280 million, she says.
President Obama is expected to soon send the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement to Congress for consideration.
