Got some open time on your calendar today? Why not balance the federal budget?
Using a new online tool making its debut Tuesday, anyone can take a crack at the Gordian Knot that is the federal budget – and Alexander the Great need not try.
The “Federal Budget Challenge” is based on the Budget Challenge platform that was originally developed in 2005 by the nonprofit Next 10 for the state of California.
The program has been used by more than 300,000 people to wrestle with the tasks that lawmakers and armies of lobbyists deal with in Sacramento.
Now Next10 has teamed with the Concord Coalition and its Principles and Priorities budget exercise, which has been used in numerous town hall meetings across the country by members of Congress from both parties, as well as in hundreds of high school and college classrooms for the new online tool.
(Next10 Founder and CEO Noel Perry talks with CVBT about the new project in this exclusive audio interview via Skype. Please click on the arrow immediately below to listen now or on the link at the end of the story to download the audio or listen in an MP3 format.)
Next 10 describes itself as “an independent, nonpartisan organization that educates, engages and empowers Californians to improve the state’s future.”
