An eight person wine buyer's delegation from Shenyang, China, is scheduled to visit the Lodi Wine and Visitor Center in Lodi on July 19.
The purpose of the trip is to become acquainted with the people, land and unique micro-climates of Lodi wines.
"The Lodi appellation covers over 100,000 acres of premium winegrapes, making it the single largest wine region in California,” says Lodi Winegrape Commission Executive Director Camron King. “China is the fastest growing imported wine market in the world. Lodi has the ultra-high quality wines, along with the volume that makes us just perfect for large export markets.”
He says several Lodi wineries are already shipping wine to China, with many others interested in exploring export channels.
“We also have several smaller wineries that have never exported, but given the right opportunity, certainly could rise to the occasion if they so choose," he says.
This will be the third time that the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office in Shenyang, China and local Lodi grape grower Frank Gayaldo have collaborated to bring wine buyers from Shenyang to Lodi. US ATO Shenyang's mission is to assist American agricultural businesses enter and succeed in the Northeast China market. Their jurisdiction covers the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, and Heilongjiang, together representing the fastest growing region of mainland China, with a population of 110 million.
The past efforts have resulted in multiple container loads of local agricultural products being exported from the Lodi region.
A supporter of this year's event is Wells Fargo's China Desk. Led by 30-year company veteran Ken Petrilla, Wells Fargo’s China Desk aims to increase business and deepen trade and investment ties between China and the U.S.
Wineries that purchase Lodi grapes interested in participating are welcome to contact the Lodi Winegrape Commission or Mr. Gayaldo directly for more information.
