• American Cheese Society to bring 1,000 for summer meeting
• More than 1,700 cheese to vie for top cheese awards
The American Cheese Society says will bring its annual conference and competition to California for the first time in more than ten years when it meets this summer in Sacramento.
The 31st annual ACS meeting is scheduled for July 29 – Aug.1 at the Sacramento Convention Center and at various locations around the state capital.
The event is expected to welcome nearly 1,000 cheese industry members to Sacramento – including cheesemakers, retailers, distributors, importers, specialty food producers, and even enthusiasts who simply appreciate great cheese.
The conference also hosts the third annual Certified Cheese Professional exam, the only exam of its kind, which encourages improved standards of comprehensive cheese knowledge and service throughout the industry. There are currently 253 ACS Certified Cheese Professionals throughout the United States and Canada, and more than 150 candidates will sit for the exam in 2014.
The largest competition of its kind, the 2013 ACS judging saw a record 1,794 entries submitted by 257 cheesemakers. Participation in the 2014 competition, which recognizes cheeses for their aesthetic and technical merits, is expected to exceed those numbers, the group says.
After two days of judging, the first-place winners in each category will be evaluated together, and a “Best of Show” will be chosen.
