ACE Rail service stopped by storm-related track damage
February 12, 2017
• Service canceled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
• “We are … working to restore service”
• UPDATED @ 11:47 a.m. Monday
All Altamont Corridor Express passenger train service has been canceled through Wednesday, it says.
Wednesday was added to the shutdown list just before noon on Monday.
ACE rail blames it on "persistent and developing weather factors, as well as additional unforeseen service disruptions since yesterday." It has not elaborated.
The trains run a route from Stockton to San Jose.
The winter storms with their heavy rains and rapid snow melt have caused washouts, rivers to flood and damage to the tracks used by the commuter trains.
ACE rents track time from Union Pacific; it does not actually own the tracks.
“We are rerouting trains and diligently working to restore service to normal operations,” says spokesman Justin Jacobs.
