One problem with any marketing campaign, whether by a small business or a large one, is measuring the results.
“How do you know what’s working for you if you’re not measuring it,” says Claudia Newcorn, a business and marketing consultant based in Modesto. “You have to measure outcomes.”
But that doesn’t always happen. She points to a client that spent $50,000 a month on advertising, but had no idea which media worked and which didn’t, simply because they didn’t do the basic tracking.
(Claudia Newcorn offers real-life marketing tips for small business, plus with her concept of “stealth marketing” and reveals why one client paid her in hot chocolate in today’s exclusive CVBT Audio Interview via Skype. “When you’re whacking your way through the day-to-day bushes, trying to get through the forest, it just consumes you,” she says. “A good manager, a good owner, recognizes that every so often they’ve got to come up for air. They have to instead of working in the business, they have to work on the business.”
Ms. Newcorn is the author of the book, “Zipline to Success,” which she describes as being about fast-track marketing strategies to accelerate sales and profits.
