July 13, 2017
• More than 700 teachers expected at July 28 event
• “Her message is sure to empower and inspire teachers”
More than 700 educators are registered for the third annual California Better Together Teachers Summit, which is scheduled for Friday, July 28, at the Icardo Center on the California State University, Bakersfield campus.
The event is a day for teachers and by teachers and will allow attendees to share ideas, join a teacher network and learn effective strategies for implementing the new California Standards in their classrooms.
Jill Biden, wife of former Vice President Joe Biden, who has taught at community colleges, a public high school, and a psychiatric hospital for adolescents throughout her 30-year teaching career, was recently announced as the telecast’s keynote speaker for all participating campuses.
“Her message is sure to empower and inspire teachers, which fits perfectly with the intent of the day,” says Kristina LaGue, department chairman of Teacher Education at CSUB. “As a life-long educator, she will be able to share key insights on teaching that will be very relevant to all educators.”
The summit brings together teachers at nearly 40 locations across the state, including the CSUB campus. The program will feature keynote addresses by education leaders, TED-style talks presented by local teachers, and discussions on timely topics. Local teachers Alli Arnold and Edward Gonzalez will be the local keynote speakers addressing the CSUB campus.
