Hurricane force winds along with waves 40 feet and higher have made rounding the tip of South America a terrorizing experience for countless voyagers. The storms of Cape Horn have claimed at least 10,000 lives over the years.
And now they’ve provided the foundation for a fresh look at business management.
Management consultant Rob Duncan was part of the crew on a four-masted sailing ship that went through the Cape recently on a trip from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic.
He says his experiences helped sharpen his focus when it comes to consulting businesses. It also led to his writing of a book, "Haul Away! Teambuilding Lessons from a Voyage Around Cape Horn."
Mr. Duncan talks about what he learned and how those lessons can be applied to business in this interview.
