Dole Fresh Vegetables Company, a division of Dole Food Company Inc., says it has converted all of its harvesting equipment in Salinas as well as in Yuma, Ariz., to B20 biodiesel fuel.
Biodiesel is derived from natural oils with 20 percent less unburned hydrocarbons than conventional diesel as well as less carbon monoxide and particulate matter, according to the EPA.
“Being good stewards of the environment is very important to Dole and this includes reducing emissions and using alternative sources of energy,” says Kevin Fiori, Dole’s senior vice president for agriculture operations.
Dole says it has been testing B20 biodiesel since August in farm equipment and off road vehicles.
