•  Gary Harpst says building his own company helped him learn the secret

•  ‘Don’t think of your biggest problem as the thing in front of you’

Gary Harbst

Building his one-man software company tucked away in a corner of northwest Ohio into a worldwide organization of more than 300 employees helped entrepreneur Gary Harpst pinpoint the secret to business success.

Mr. Harpst says its mastering strategy execution – balancing planning and executing while managing a real-time business.

“Don’t think of your biggest problem as the thing in front of you,” says Mr. Harpst. “Your biggest problem is that as you solve problems and overcome hurdles, bigger ones will come and until you build an organization that recognizes that, you’re going to have this up and down reaction-oriented type of business.”

(Gary Harpst expands on his theory and talks about how he built his business in today’s CVBT Audio Interview. Please left-click on the link below to listen now or right-click to download the MP3 audio file to your computer or mobile media device.)

Mr. Harpst has compiled his thought in a new book, “Six Disciplines Execution Revolution: Solving the One Business Problem That Makes Solving All Other Problems Easier” (Greenleaf Book Group, July 2008).

It builds on his earlier book, “Six Disciplines for Excellence.”
