But she says her real insights into business leadership trace to her adoption of a baby from Russia.
“As I sat with my daughter for two months, and uncovered what it really was about leadership … I came up with seven essential leadership insights that I was finding as a parent I was implementing,” says Ms. Lopez.
“And then I had the opportunity, when I went back to work, to really analyze this and put it into practice. The results were amazing – we had our best year ever,” she says.
Ms. Lopez is now a motivational speaker and management coach, running her own small business in Houston, Texas. It’s different from her career with the Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO) where she was a vice president of marketing.
“The major theme on which all of this hangs is about bringing your heart to work,” she says. “I’m not talking about just emotions. What I’m saying is that we have to bring our compassion, we have to bring our humanity to work.”

Ms. Lopez contends there is a connection between what a person does at home and what they do at work that translates into “leadership with heart.”
